If there is one indisputable truth in the universe right now, it is that Apple are slowly but surely taking over the world. The iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch have all pretty much dominated the marketplace in recent years, with newer and better versions of these products being released at suitably strategic intervals, and it is a sad fact that no-one else has really managed to successfully offer any kind of realistic competition. Until now…

Because as Apple launch their latest offering- the iPad Mini, a highly credible and believable competitor already exists in the tablet marketplace that could well give Apple something of a run for their money. Enter then please, the Google Nexus 7…

The whole idea and concept behind Tablets is for them to eventually replace Laptops just as they, in turn, have replaced Desktop computers. Tablets are lighter and more easily transportable than Laptops and hence more attractive to the younger generation but of these two latest, smaller models to hit the marketplace, which is the better value?

Well, firstly it could be argued that Apple already have the advantage; being a well-established brand and with the Mini being a much more compact version of their already successful ipad. Google have a lot more to prove with their Nexus 7 and there is a lot of customer uncertainty that they will need to overcome. But the Nexus 7 is cheaper by around £70 and this could help make all the difference! And of course another factor that comes into play is that whilst the Nexus is a more in-between device, customers have to ask themselves if they already own an iPhone/ iPod Touch or iPad do they really need the Mini?

When it comes down to size, both tablets are very similar. The iPad Mini is slightly thinner but both the Mini and the Nexus weigh in at around the same. The Nexus 7 comes with more pixels and a better detailed screen but its memory storage only goes up to a maximum of 32GB. The Mini, on the other hand, comes with 16GB, 32GB or a slightly more impressive 64GB storage. And whilst the Nexus only has a forward facing camera, the Mini does come with both forward and rear facing options.

At the end of the day, it comes down basically to which of the two YOU prefer though, on paper at least, you DO seem to get more for your money with the Mini. But again I ask the question….if you already own an iPhone or a iPod Touch, do you REALLY need a Mini? If the answer is no then the Nexus may just seem like a better deal…
